Alta Transport history

On December 13, 1991, the Lithuanian branch of the Dutch firm OLST & JONKER was registered with the then Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania. The branch began operations as UAB “ALTA transportas” and continues to operate in Kaunas to this day.

In its first years of operation, the company’s scope of activities was very broad—ranging from trade to the manufacture of plastic boats. Gradually, the need arose for a reliable transport company to handle the shipment of its goods. To that end, a subsidiary was established in 1993, which began transporting cargo on international routes. In October 1993, the company also became a full member of the Lithuanian National Road Carriers’ Association “LINAVA.”

In 1995, following a change in shareholders in the Netherlands, the company’s name was changed to UAB “C. van Heezik.” With the arrival of the new shareholder, the company expanded its fleet, hired new employees, and successfully transported cargo from the Netherlands to Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Russia until the Russian crisis of 1998. Unfortunately, the 1998 Russian crisis disrupted our plans—with a decline in cargo volumes and freight rates, we tried to find new markets in Western Europe, but at that time, this was very difficult. Between 2000 and 2005, the company was left with only three employees, who successfully managed freight shipments between Eastern and Western Europe.

In February 2005, the company once again acquired semi-trailer trucks and began transporting cargo on international routes. In December 2007, the company’s name was changed once again to its current name, UAB “ALTA transportas”.

Having resumed transporting cargo with its own fleet, the company has focused on expanding its operations and establishing a foothold in European Union markets since 2005. As the past year has shown, this was the right choice. The company has earned the trust of its foreign partners by meeting even the most demanding customer requirements and always fulfilling its obligations on time.
